This memory is when Dae was trying to choose between living at home and going to school on a rowing scholarship, or moving to Texas to be closer with her father. After a long conversation with her ill father, she made the final choice.

Dae had a single mother growing up since her father moved to Texas with his family after the divorce with her mother. She had many siblings too. After her father recovered from having a stroke,  Dae thought about transferring schools so she could be closer to her dad. She spent hours stressing about whether or not it was the right thing to do. She was always closer to her father than her mom even though he was far away. Her mother was always working three jobs to support  the family and help pay for the medical bills Dae’s father received while being in the hospital. She appreciated that her mother worked so hard but she never seemed to have enough time to really spend with her or any of her siblings. She rowed all throughout high school and that was her passion. She hoped to get a scholarship to row in college and she did. However transferring to a school in Texas to be closer to her dad would put her at risk of not receiving a scholarship and and being in even more debt. She continued to stress about what was the right thing to do. Her heart was telling her one thing but her financial situation was telling her another. She would get so upset that the one thing keeping her from being with her father was money. How unfair she thought. She kept thinking about her father and his stroke. She thought to herself, “Money means nothing when you die, so why does it have to matter now?” Dae kept sitting on this idea of moving away from everything she's ever known, and a rowing scholarship just to be closer to her dad that at the time was still ill. After a few weeks went by it was time for her to make what seemed to be one of the biggest decisions of her life. In front of her was a paper application of a school in Texas, and the other piece of paper was The Letter of Intent to sign to row at Temple University. She kept bringing her pen in hand to one paper then pulling it back. This went on for what seemed like forever but all of a sudden she got a phone call from her father. After an hour long phone call with her dad, Dae signed to row for Temple University.
