I interviewed my sister Maria at her house, and she chose to retell the story of when she had her first baby. This event was truly one of her favorite memories because she had been trying to have a kid for awhile and having Rocco brought so much joy into her and her husbands life. I truly enjoy recalling this memory with my sister about my nephew Rocco because our lives would all be very different if he wasn’t here.

Maria had been waiting for this day for as long as she could remember. Her and her husband Jon had been married for 3 years and always anticipated having a kid of their own. After learning she had finally become pregnant, everyday was like a countdown until her dream of becoming a mother finally came true. The bump coming out from her belly was big enough that she couldn’t see her toes and couldn’t put her own shoes on. Every day past her due date she began to grow more anxious and ready to bring this baby into the world.

It was 3 days past her due date and she was just getting ready to climb into bed for the night. Suddenly, she started feeling a pain in her stomach and knew that it must be time. Maria started panicking, scared of what was going to come next. Her husband instantly calmed her down when he reminded her of how everything was going to be worth it when she finally got to hold the baby. She immediately grabbed her husband and told him they needed to go to the hospital right away.

The whole ride to the hospital was filled with anxiousness and joy at the same time. They were both ecstatic to finally become parents but nervous about this experience that was so new to them. Maria was rushed into the hospital room and she became nervous because she didn’t know what to expect. Jon was standing there right by her side, gripping her hand, and telling her everything was going to be just fine. After what seemed to be the longest 2 hours, baby Rocco had finally arrived. Maria held him in her arms and could already tell that he was perfect and was the light of both their lives. Maria and Jon made eye contact and both instantly started crying. They were both so overjoyed and were ready to become the best parents for their new baby.

When the doctor gave them the approval to bring Rocco home, that’s when Maria and Jon actually started to feel like they were parents. From the moment that they had gotten home, Maria could not keep her hands off of the baby. Every second she wanted to be holding him close to her chest because he gave her a sense of comfort. After all the struggles she went through to have a baby, Rocco was the greatest blessing she could have received. Maria and Jon were beyond excited to start this journey together.
