This is the day that Penny's son got into a car accident. This is every moment that is leading up to her figuring out what is going on and whether or not he is okay. The call, the car ride, all the way to finding out where the heck Brandon is in the hospital.

It was mid afternoon on July 11th, 2015. Wearing a bright yellow one piece bathing suit, Penny was laying on a lounge chair in her backyard. It was 80 degrees, sunny, and the music was blasting. Finally getting settled in and comfortable is always the perfect time for an interruption. Her husband, Peter yells out from the kitchen window upstairs “Pen! Chris is calling you.” This was strange to both of them because Chris is her ex-husband. This is also the father of three of her children which makes every make more sense but the thing was, her children are all grown. They never had a good relationship. Once the reality of what this could mean settled in, her heart sank. Something is wrong. Mother’s intuition, I guess. She gets up, rips the sliding glass door open, and hurries upstairs. Peter meets her at the top of the stairs and hands her her phone. “I’m sure it’s nothing,” he tries to keep her calm. “Something is wrong Peter. I just feel it.” She calls Chris hears a frantic voice on the other line. She can hear the engine of his truck and honking horns in the background as he weaves in and out of traffic, “Brandon got into a motorcycle accident. I think he’s ok. I’m on the way to the hospital now.” As quickly as she can she pulls herself together. Her and Peter hop in the car just as they are and head to Centra State Hospital. Peter is driving frantically and Penny is trying to get in touch with all of her children. That was the longest car ride of her life. They finally pulled up to Centre State. Peter dropped her off at the emergency room entrance and she ran inside. Only wearing a cover up over her bathing suit, she was disheveled. You can’t prepare for something like this. She runs up to the counter and tells them she’s looking for Brandon Guido. They direct her to a private waiting room. As she’s walking towards the waiting room she’s trying to look around for her son but doesn’t see him, desperate to find a

glimpse of hope. She finally makes it to the waiting room and finds about fifteen people both family and friends of Brandon anxiously waiting for a word on his condition. She wanted to be told something, anything to give her hope. Before even saying hello she frantically asks “Does anyone know anything about Brandon? Did they tell you anything?” Everyone has an unsettling look on their face. Penny felt like her heart sank to her stomach. Before anyone got the chance to respond they saw brandon stroll by on a stretcher, Penny turns around and runs out the door. She sees his eyes open “Hey mom,” he says softly, she gives him and kiss and starting crying immediately. “Are you ok? How bad is it?” Brandon is in bad condition and that he probably won’t be able to walk for a couple of months but he assures her that he’s going to be ok. The doctors tell her about all of his injuries but that he will make it through. That’s all that mattered and that’s all she wanted to hear. That her baby boy was going to make it.

This was one of the scariest days of Penny’s life. No one knew anything about Brandon’s condition and she couldn't get any comfort. She just wanted to know that he was alive and for a whole hour, which felt like an eternity, she couldn’t get an answer. The moment that she saw him and knew that he was ok felt like a blessing from God.

Is he going to be ok?
