I interview my best friend who I call my cousin, Dise. He’s a humorous wise artsy guy who i knew since i was a freshman in highschool and became instantaneously family with. A musician who you could only really explain as being super jazzy. The story is hilarious and is important because it presents him not only as a memory of his childhood but as a little brother who people don't get to see often because he often presents as a older brother which he also is.

He smiled and told me “man did I ever tell you about the dog story?” . The year was 2001 and Dise was only 6 years old. It was about mid september with a small chill that surrounded the air. He and his sister made sure to dress in jackets. During that time they lived in an apartment complex which was right next to the school so it was never difficult to walk to it and often they had done so. Separating the apartment complex was an old parking lot that they would often walk on next to the highway. They always crossed the highway in order to get to the school. As him and his sister approached the parking lot a dog suddenly appeared out of nowhere and began to bark. He barked in a way that Dise can only explain as “you know he was crazy devil behind dog”. Immediately both him and his sister’s thought were in sync. They immediately began to run.  He reached out, deeply breathing, trying to grasp his sister by the hood of her jacket in order for her to wait for him. Hoping that she would slow down but she tossed him of and rushed to the school leaving him in her dust. Suddenly he was to find himself in an all out race with the dog knowing that if he did not reach first. Then the winner would definitely be the dog and his prize a smile child for a chewing toy. His fear took form of a drum beating heart. Quickly air was no longer was a necessity.Survival was the only thought. A rush of blood overcame him.He ran and ran until he crossed the highway and when he looked back he couldn't help but notice that the dog had looked both ways when crossing the highway before proceeding to continue running. Nonetheless was not slowed down in the least. The door was becoming closer he can see the light at the end of the tunnel but he refused to look back. Minus the dust that he was leaving in his run against the dog the air had become filled with saliva and prayers. The door began to open. It was the janitor who only saw a kid running assuming that he was simply late to school. His prayers were being answered. Doors opening almost there in a cinematic slow motion. He jumped and slammed the door at the very last minute leaving the dog scratching against the door and pushing in anger. Thanking God and the janitor in the same breathe he then began walking to class. His teacher stared at him sweat dripping and told him “you're late” he laughed and knew that actually he was on time.
