I interviewed my grandma at her home in Langhorne, PA. I had heard this story many times before, and every time my grandma can't get through the story without laughing. She says she later used Lucy's birthing technique when she gave birth to her first child, my uncle Jim.

“Oh Alice, can you grab the lavender cardigan you borrowed me from me the other night?” Alice flashed Helen a slightly annoyed look. She was hoping that Helen would forget that she took the cardigan because she secretly wanted to keep it for herself. “Alright Helen, I guess I’ll stop everything and go allllll the way upstairs to get your cardigan,” Alice quipped. Helen rolled her eyes. “You are so dramatic Alice.”

She left the kitchen and sauntered up the stairs to her bedroom. She started rifling through her closet to find the cardigan when she heard an odd MeeeOOOOOOWWWW. Alice’s heart leaped in her chest. After getting over the initial shock, Alice slowly looked down and was surprised to see her tabby cat Lucy. Only Lucy wasn’t alone.

Next to Lucy was a newborn kitten! The tiny orange kitten mewed loudly as Lucy licked it clean. Alice was stunned; she hadn’t even realized that Lucy was pregnant, yet here she was giving birth in her small, messy closet.

Awestruck, Alice watched as Lucy arched her back and pushed. She was visibly shaking with effort, but this time she did not meow. Another kitten was soon visible. This one was a tabby, just like Lucy. Alice was overcome with emotion.

Tears trickled down her face as she stroked Lucy lovingly. She could tell that childbirth was no easy feat. Although, her joy was replaced by terror when she noticed where Lucy had decided to birth her kittens. Helen’s lavender cardigan was not so lavender anymore. Her feet pounded up the stairs and she walked in the room in a huff. Helen had a rant prepared for Alice about stealing clothes, but her jaw dropped when she saw the newborn kittens and her ruined cardigan. “AGHHH, WHY MY CARDIGAN!”
