I’ve heard this story from my Mother a couple different times. During our interview, I wanted to go through everything that led up to my mom having a C-Section. It was a scary process for her but she was incredibly joyous after my sister and I were successfully born. My mother always enjoys telling this story.

It was a routine checkup for her. Vitals were good-- except blood pressure. Several minutes later, they took her blood pressure again.

“We’re just going to keep you in the hospital until delivery,” the nurse said.

That was over a week ago. Today, September 28th, was just another day for Carol, the soon-to-be mother of two. Satisfied with her loving husband and their pet dog Benny, Carol never thought she’d have children at 44, let alone twins.

She was monitored earlier that morning, and then again in the afternoon. Now it was time to go in for an ultrasound, and all she could think about was having a snack. “Making a pregnant woman fast for twelve hours should be illegal,” she thought. Carol clenched her teeth as Dr. Rosenbaum applied the cold gel to her abdomen.

The ultrasound wasn’t anything new for Carol, though, many minutes passed, and nobody had come in to tell her everything was fine. That’s when Carol saw all of her doctors congregating in the room next door. Perhaps it was her maternal instincts, because she called Bruce right away and told him to come to the hospital.

Several long minutes later, Carol’s doctor came in to share the news that “Baby B” wasn’t doing their breathing motions. They concluded that performing an emergency C-Section was necessary.

Carol overflowed with concern. The doctors suppressed most of her anxiety through their confidence and controlling her breathing patterns.

A couple steroid shots and incisions later, Baby A and Baby B were born six and a half weeks early. Baby A, named Joshua, came out at 5 lbs. Baby B, Lauren, came out at 2lbs 10 oz.

“Twinnies!” Carol said smiling, as she celebrated with her doctors.
