This memory is very important to Jim as this is what he treasures about a neighborhood that no longer exists. The charming place he grew up in looks nothing like that today, as it is now run down and violent. Despite that, Jim still treasures his memories of the place, where his idyllic childhood home can be preserved. This is just a snapshot of one of the many happy memories he has of his home town.

At 5am, during the summer, when most kids were probably sleeping, my neighborhood was awake with anticipation. We were waiting for the sound of horse hooves clip-clopping on the road, the sound of the wooden wheels rolling on the asphalt. We were waiting for the ringing bell of the Waffle Cart.

At the sound of the bell, we would dash out of the house to see the light brown wooden cart, where the waffles were being made, and a line was already forming. The man in the cart, a short, round-faced man who looked happy to be up and selling his wares, would wrap up the waffles in a plain tissue paper, dust them with powdered sugar, and for about 2 bucks, would hand over the best waffles any of us ever had. The smell of the hot sugar wafting through the air filled us with anticipation as the line would inch closer to the window. I eagerly awaited my turn, when my own hot waffle would be handed to me, and I could enjoy the nicest, tastiest waffle I would ever eat. It was one of the crowning moments of my summers.
