The Spaces Between Your Fingers

It was the begining of my freshman year at college. And to put it lightly, I was struggling immensely. In a strange new place, surrounded by unfarmillar faces, I was feeling completely out of my comfort zone. I was having trouble meeting new people and making friends. And to go with that, I was trying to handle my long distance boyfriend and my quickly falling grades. Needless to say, I was really feeling down in the dumps. I started to feel as if nothing could lift me back up. My feelings became overbearing that I started talking about them to a friend, Sarah, in hopes that this would make me feel better. But, it didn't.

I started turning inward, and keeping myself locked away from my friends and classmates. That all changed when Sarah slid an envelope into my notebook. At first I was confused, What could this girl possibly have for me? As soon as I got home I opened the envelope. Inside was a letter and a beaded bracelet. My new friend wanted me to know that, no matter what was going on in my life, she would be there to support me in whatever way she could. She strung together some of her favorite beads to make a beautiful bracelet just for me. Sarah said this bracelet could be something I would always look down and smile it. And it definitely was. She went completely out of her way just to make me happy. Sarahs small little gift lifted my spirits completely and helped me to begin thinking more on the bright side.
