We've all piled into the van and Pop Pop K is driving us out into the desert again.  I've always loved the desert; even now, though I'm having visual problems, I can sense the open space around me, and I love it.

Pop Pop K is wearing a sport shirt and nice slacks.  He has a heavy equipment business and is one of the most generous men I've ever known.  We met him through Grandmom Jean, who's also along for the ride.

Today we're heading out to visit one of his mines.  It fascinates me how they pull up something as elemental as rock and transform it into something useful.

Out the window, the cacti seem to be waving to us - hello on the way there, and goodbye on the way back.
