I spoke with Stefan at the Free Library after he approached me and asked what SBYF was about. He sat down with me and immediately started telling me his memory of Crater Lake without me even having to ask him a question. He spoke of his travels as if they were one of the best times in his life; and he told me the story in an almost poetic way.

After reading On The Road by Jack Kerouac, I knew all I wanted to do was travel after I finished school, so I took my scholarship money, packed a backpack, and decided to go traveling across the United States.  After traveling through numerous states I finally reached Crater Lake in Oregon.

The soft wind that made its way through the unpolluted and silent air sent a shiver down my spine and almost had me forget that it was the middle of summer.  As I stood staring out into the brilliantly clear water that was some distance away from me, I felt the greatest sense of peace I had ever felt in my life.  I felt my heartbeat slow into a smooth rhythm that mimicked my breathing and saw all of the magic that was present in the world begin to surround me.

I dropped my backpack on the soft grass before laying down beside it.  Crater Lake was even more beautiful than I thought was possible.  There seemed to be thousands of small, white candles lighting up the black sky and the brightest, biggest candle of all was the full moon that shined remarkably on the clear water.
