Rachel and her friend Elena went on a trip to Punta Cana for spring break. The trip had been in the making for over a year and Rachel shared her amazing memories of it with me.

On my trip to Punta Cana for spring break, with my best friend of fourteen years Elena, I had one of the best experiences of my life. Our trip began with a relaxing hangout by the pool followed by a trip to the never-ending buffet. Each night had a different, unique, cuisine on the menu that allowed us to try many new foods that we’d never experienced before. Our first night there was traditional local Dominican food. The dish that I had was La Bandera Dominicana, which was composed of white rice, beans, and chicken.

The next day was a visit to one of the most popular beaches in Punta Cana, La Jolla. The water was crystal blue and the sand was the whitest that I’d ever seen. There were many people at the beach but it did not feel this way due to how massive it was. It was amazing to be able to see the animals in the water through the crystal clear water. Unfortunately, this trip left me with horrible sunburn that ended leaving me hotel bound for the next two days.

Once I was well enough to go back out into the sun, we went horseback riding. I had never been horseback riding before and it was a scary experience. The horses that we rode were massive in stature and seemed to be as sturdy as the base of a skyscraper. Trying to keep control of the horses was extremely tiring on our bodies. The horse ride went through a very prestigious part of Punta Cana that included the houses of famous persons such as Julio Iglesias. I had never seen mansions this big. The styles of the houses are so different than ones that you see in America and it was amazing to see the beachside villas.

The last night of the trip was the most memorable. Elena and I went out to dinner, at a restaurant on a pier, with her parents. We had an amazing five star meal, which included traditional Dominican Republic cuisine. As the sun set Elaine told me to follow her. “Don’t be afraid,” she said as we walked across a long pier that lead to the beautiful real estates and top of the line yachts. She had found the perfect spot to relax and enjoy each other’s company, as well as the beautiful landscape that surrounded us.
