The Spaces Between Your Fingers

My husband and I have spent a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom, with and without our daughter. This trip stands out to us because it was our first trip with our daugther.

“What’s that?” OJ asked me as we entered the Magic Kingdom.

“Oh, that’s the Sword in the Stone.  Legend has it the person that pulls it out will become a prince or a princess for the day” I told him.

“You’re kidding me!” he said with a look of disbelief.  I just shook my head and said, “Well, you know, a KID becomes a prince or a princess Disney style.”

“OH, well, why didn’t you say that in the first place Angela!”

We wandered around the park a little and found ourselves back in front of the Sword and the Stone.

“That’s it.  I’m going to get that sword out of that stone” said my husband with determination.  Ten minutes later, he walked away dejected and said, “Well that’s impossible.”

About an hour later we saw a crowd standing around the stone.  A little boy walked up to it, reaches over, put his hands on the handle and pulled.  All of a sudden, there were fireworks and loud trumpeting music.  The boy was crowned prince.

My husband stood there open mouthed and I said to him:  “I told you, a KID becomes a prince…”  I leaned over, gave him a kiss on the check and said, “but you will always be MY prince.”
