Our fourteen year old daughter has taken quite a few vacations with me and my husband. She has heard all about the different views we have always had from our hotel rooms. Our nicest view was in Vero Beach, where the sun rose over the Atlantic Ocean every morning. Our worst view was the roof at the Excalibur Hotel in Las Vegas. After waiting all day for our room to be ready for our goddaughter’s wedding, we are greeted by a brick wall right outside our hotel room window.

“Finally” I said as we walking into our hotel room.  We had driven four hours to DC only to wait another three hours for a hotel room to be ready.  It was a sight for sore eyes.  I plopped on the bed.

“What do you think the view is behind the curtain Mom? Dad?”

“Well..I think it is the air conditioning on the roof.”

“No Ang, it’s definitely a view of the parking lot.”

Kiley looks at the two of us and pulls the curtains of the window in our hotel room aside.  “Mommy, have you and Daddy have had this view before” Kiley asks incredulously.

I got off the bed to see what she was talking about.  The three of us stood there amazed and no one spoke for a full minute.

I responded “No honey, I can say that we have, have we OJ?”

“No, this is a first.”

“Mommy, I just don’t know what to say.  Is this really the view?  How can that be” Kiley asked.

We were looking out the window of our room into a white cinderblock wall.

“I think” my husband said as he tried to open the window, “I can actually reach out and touch it!”

“Oh, no, that can’t be” I exclaimed.

“No, Mommy I think that Daddy is right!”  Kiley ran over to the window and looked down and she agreed with my husband.

“This is certainly not a preferred view” my husband said laughing.  “Did they ask you if you wanted a view?”

“Do you think I would have asked for THIS?”

Kiley looked at the two of us and said “Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m taking a picture of this because NO ONE is going to believe THIS!”
