Erin told me about the first time he rode Kingda Ka at Six Flags in Jackson, NJ. He said he rode smaller roller coasters before and had intentionally avoided riding Kingda Ka, but the girl he was talking to at the time pressured him into doing it. He loved it. He told me how he felt free and how he felt as if he could do anything in that moment.

My heart was going to beat out of my chest.  I was sure of it.  I wrapped my hands more tightly around the metal straps that were locking me into this death trap and looked out to the track ahead of me.

Holy shit! I thought as a buzzing and hissing noise sounded from beneath the cart.  Screams filled the air as we all anticipated take off.  The worst part was never traversing the roller coaster ride; the worst part was always the wait.  And the wait for Kingda Ka’s start was the worst of all.

I got this I told myself just before the cart moved back a few inches and shot forward.  In a matter of seconds we were up the ninety-degree slope!  There was nothing between me and the faultless blue sky and the wind whipping mercilessly around my face.

So this is what is feels like to fly.
