The Spaces Between Your Fingers

Ethel's husband bought the ring in the Px and the mailman brought it right to her; she had to sign for it.

I want to tell you about how I got engaged. My husband was stationed in Maine in World War II. He sent me my diamond ring by certified mail. He called me one night at 3 am and said:

"I sent you a diamond ring in the mail and I hope you'll say yes."

Two weeks later he came home and we were married at The Church of the Parsonage. I remember his brown hair and his blue eyes. He was always trying to make everyone laugh. We were married for sixty years. I wish that he were here, but I know that I will see him again.
