Show don't tell
No clichés!
Try to include at least one simile or metaphor.
Consider adding dialogue.
Cut, cut, cut. Start with more than you need in the first draft, then cut.
Don’t forget about your other senses!
Specify (but don’t overspecify) your verbs.
