It was a month before our wedding and he still didn’t propose to me. We invited everyone, booked a restaurant, but I made it clear that I would not get married if he didn’t propose to me officially.
He told me that there was a problem with the restaurant we booked, so he wanted to find a backup restaurant in case we needed to change our plans. He also told me to meet him in a part of the city that I wasn’t familiar with.
“Where are we going? I still don’t know Belgrade quite well, but I’m sure that we’re not going to find a restaurant here.” I said knowing that restaurants in that part of the city were way over our budget.
“Can’t you just trust me? Just follow me.”
“Okay, I will,” I said still trying to figure out where we were heading.
Even though I knew him for too short to actually know what he was up to, I could tell he was up to something big. I could feel the excitement in his voice. His satisfied smile while he was talking definitely confirmed that he had planned something. But what?
After walking for fifteen minutes, I started to recognize the place where we were walking towards. We were at the Gardos Tower, a place from where you get an amazing view of Belgrade. There was a stage next to the tower. He climbed onto the stage, while I just stood there confused.
“Are you going to sing for me or what?” I asked sarcastically.
“Why don’t you join me up here and find out?” he said still with a smile on his face.
“I would if you give me a hand”
He grabbed my hand and pulled me on the stage. I took a couple of steps forward towards the microphones.
“Wow, the view from here is amazing. I’ve never been on a stage. I feel like a pop star,” I said, but there was no response. “Hey, I’m talking to you,” I said as I turned back. And there he was on his knees with a ring in his hand.
“Dragana, will you marry me?”
I just stood there speechless. I was overwhelmed with emotions like I never was before.
“I didn’t think that I would have to ask twice, but will you marry me? I need an answer,” he said smiling at me.
“Yes of course! Yes, yes!” I answered excitingly.
He put the ring on my finger, stood up and kissed me. I had waited for that moment for so long, and when it finally happened the time stopped for me. I felt so special in his arms.
“So, now it’s official. We’re getting married,” I whispered.
“Oh, you just had to ruin this moment by reminding me,” he whispered back smiling, holding me even tighter than before.
